Potential New York State Supplement Ban
The vague language of a controversial bill in the State of New York that aims to restrict the sale of dietary supplements for weight loss or muscle building could also encompass creatine. Currently, the bill excludes protein powders and protein drinks. Several other states including Rhode Island and New Jersey also have bills containing vague language that could impact other products and categories as well. These vague bills have prompted additional industry concern about a national effort on the part of states to act against undesirable dietary supplements. A similar bill has been passed by the California State Assembly, and it also prohibits the sale of weight loss supplements to minors.
